An honest account of access
Higher Faugan is a house built in 1904 on a Cornish hillside. Rather than claim more than we can deliver, here is what the building is actually like — and an invitation to call us before you book.
Getting here and parking
Parking is on site, free, and level with the main entrance area. Guests can be dropped at the door. The approach road, Chywoone Hill, is steep.
Newlyn harbour is a ten-minute walk downhill from the house; the return is a sustained climb, which many guests choose to do by taxi.
The building
The house has steps at the entrance and internal changes of level. Rooms are on more than one floor and are reached by stairs; there is no lift.
Door widths, bathroom layouts and step heights vary from room to room because the house was not built to a single plan. We have not yet completed a room-by-room measured access audit, and we will not publish figures we have not measured.
The grounds
The lawn and pond garden are on sloping ground with grass and gravel paths and some steps. Seating areas are reached across grass.
Before you book — please call us
Tell us what you need and we will tell you honestly whether a particular room will work, or whether it will not. Call 01736 351648 or email doug@higherfaugan.co.uk. We would much rather have that conversation now than have you arrive to something unsuitable.
Assistance dogs
We do not accept pets. Assistance dogs are a separate matter and are welcomed — please tell us in advance so we can allocate a suitable room.
This website
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 AA. The site works with keyboard navigation, respects reduced-motion preferences, uses real text rather than pictures of text, and provides descriptive alternative text for photographs.
If any part of this site is difficult to use, tell us at doug@higherfaugan.co.uk and we will fix it. We treat that as a bug, not a suggestion.
Access audit pending
Needs owner confirmation
A full room-by-room access statement — door widths, step counts, bathroom dimensions, grab rails — is being prepared with the owners and will be published here once measured.
